Hi, looks like a useful site.
I'm looking for any information on the surname COZENS who mainly seem to have lived around High Ham up to the end of 19th century. At the moment I am particularly looking for info on John Stuckey Cozens who was apparently a tailor in High Ham in 1851, when his son George was married.
Looks like a great site. My first time here. Looking for John or Samuell around 1635 to 1648. Owned land in Hingham Mass USA but may have been living in UK. John granted land to town of Hingham MA in 1636/7/8 but cannot locate him yet. May have left UK before or after these dates. Any ideas?

Hi, Good Site, very informative. A request? I am looking to locate the Birth Certificate of my GGM Sarah? Jane ROSEWALL. The 1881 Census lists her place of birth as Kings Hampton, Somerset. All my research so far has hit the proverbial brick wall, nobody seems to know of it's existance. Can anybody help me? Many Thanks and keep up the good work. Roy Jones royden1163@hotmail.com

Nice to see a website with lots of information about Somerset.Highly recommended
I have been in touch in the last few days with Roy Maber of Martock whom I met originally several years ago. It was he who drew my attention to this web site and so I am responding to your request for info about myself.
My maternal grandfather was Simeon James Thomas GRINTER. born in Martock in 1863. My/our line of descent is from Joseph Grinter and Elizabeth Style of MUCHELNEY married in Curry Rivel in 1731
My interest for some years has been the emigration of descendants from this line to Australia and to the US. In fact if you look on page 149 of the November 2001 issue of the Greenwood Tree of the Somerset and Dorset Family History Society you will find an example of my interest
More to the point I am at present searching for Grinter families in Muchelnet in the 17th C
Will that do for now
If there is anyone that I can contact I would like to do so

Have not explored fully but looks a very interesting site
I would be interested in getting into E-mail conversation with someone in the UK interested in geneology. I'm trying to research the names Bonnycastle(or similar spellings)and perhaps Bonney (from which Bonnycastle was supposedly derived) - probably based in Buckinghamshire, and Gould - an English-based family from Somerset (perhaps near Weston-super-mare). One problem I have is that I don't know where to find the location of some of the towns/villages I come across eg Weedon (perhaps in Buckinghamshire), and there seem to be a large number of Goulds with Irish heritage. I'm interested in finding out about family background before 1800, and also what happened to that part of each family that did not move to Canada 1820-1840.
I am looking for Mark Freeman b. abt 1879/1880 who eloped with Rachel Jessie schnitzer b. abt 1889/1881. They married Westminster R.O. 21/10/1898 and again in Synagogue 20/11/1897. She was born Warsaw, Poland and he was born Middlesex or London area. Both lived in St. Pancras where Morris Isaac was born 6/6/1898 and Abraham 25/1/1901. His parents were Hannah and possible Alfred deceased and Hannah remarried Jacob Jacobs and came to Australia abt 1906. Raches's father was Simon Schnitzer. They were found, parted, and the children sent to a Jewish Boarding School. I can find nothing about any of these people except the birth certificate for my father - Abraham born 1901. PLEASE HELP!!

I have found more information from this site than any other, for my family tree. The only problem is when come right down to my greatgrandfather there is nothing. Matthew, Robert, Robert and Levi are all there. But my ggrandfather Frank Weakley born Feb 16, 1854 is missing. The first Frank born June 10, 1850 died Jan 25, 1851. Frank and his brother William Henry came over to USA in about 1870 together. Frank settled in Rural Grove, Montgomery County, and married Julia Styles , sister to William's wife Cinderella. The marriage took place Feb. 16, 1873. He died on Feb 12, 1927. He had 3 children Marshal my grandfather, Fred and Anna. If there is anyother information please e-mail me. Thank you. Shirley

I have found your site very interesting, partularly as i came across it quite by accident simply by putting my surname in as a key word.My own father, same full name as myself, was born in Bath in 1911.The Lye name seems to be quite common in the Sommerset area,i shall visit the site regularly for anymore references or information about the Lye name.

I've been doing research in this area of Somerset for years. Thank You for providing new transcribed data t oadd to my workload (he, he).
I hope that as the visitors grow, we might see more parishes from around SOMERSET. I am looking for data from Hardington Mandeville & Othery.
I have found some broken links, and will submit
It's a very interesting site and
I found this site through my family who the majority live in Martock. I am the only one with web access but would like to provide information from them through me. It's reassuring to know some people care about he history of Martock and are taking it into the new millenium and it's technology. First impressions are that the site is confusing and congested. Approach the Council (probably already have) for support. Talk to Steve Aelbury (and tell him I said so!) The site is full of interesting history of Martock but needs to be compared and contrasted to todays society and how things have moved on for better or worse. Try approaching the Lottery for funding for a digital camera to improve picture quality and reduce download times. Visit Real Networks for their free slide show package or write the code yourselves. (basic code). Pay a vist to my auntie Peg Hayward. She knows a lot! 78? North Street. Roy I think you know her! Add this site asa a link to the County Council web site...I'll look for it later. Duncan, How are you? Long time no see/speak. Keep at it, it's coming on. Richard Gould
Thank you for making such a great site avaliable to all who wish to use it. It is a very easy site to navigate and the information is clear and plentiful. It is definitley added to my favourites.
Best of luck to you all, Royalene,
Am using the Stoke-sub-Hamdon pages a great deal at the moment. Thank all helpers for their hard work. Hey guys, keep up the good work! It's great to see Martock on the net! Greetings from a Martock descendant here in new Zealand. Cheers
This site is so very helpful, especially to those of us across "the pond", as you say. Duncan has been extremely diligent in answering questions, providing information and, generally, being supportive in my research. This site and, to a lesser extent, the KYJacksonPurchase List I am on (to research my husband's Ky families) are the most sharing, professional and helpful sites that I am lucky enough to have discovered. I am very grateful for all your efforts of transcribing and sharing Somerset genealogy information.
What a great site, especially the information on Martock, my Rodford family, James, Jane (formerly Warner) and their four daughters left there to settle in Australia in 1849. I look forward to future updates to the site
A lot of work must have gone into this site and thank you for sharing it. Your Stoke sub Hambdon census data shows my 2x great grand uncle Samuel Hallett living with his brother in 1841, with his housekeeper and my great grand aunt, aged 9, in 1851. By 1861 he has married his housekeeper and at age 60 has a 1 year old daughter. Thank you for making it so easy to find all this.

Decide to have a look after being told about it and I am quite impreesed.
